By the way...
  • JM's upstairs trying out Stephen King's habit of writing to loud rock music. A's still sick; she's on the couch sticking cloves into lemons. 30NOV09
  • We slept in this morning. JM is doing his algebra, but A is sick in bed. 30NOV09
  • Just used the Kitchen-Aid meat grinder attachment The Man gave me for my birthday(!) to grind up some lamb for burgers tonight. Messy. 23NOV09
  • JM is working on his novel; A is practicing piano. School will be finished before lunch today! 23NOV09
  • The Goobs are having a heated discussion about how early humans might have shaved. WTF? 23NOV09
  • Adults who ask children what they will do when they "get out into the real world" should be smacked. Repeatedly. 23NOV09

A Knitted Swiffer Cover (or three)

It's official. I've gone off the deep end. No, not because I make my own tortillas like Applie, but because I spent my vacation hours knitting Swiffer covers.

Pattern: Mop Cover from Mason Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines

    Yarn: Peaches& Creme dishcloth cotton

    Needles: U.S. size 7

    Modifications: None

My poor mother. She worked so hard to set a good example, and I still ended up homeschooling, making granola, and knitting Swiffer covers - and admitting it publicly. But, setting this vague insult to feminism aside, Swiffer covers ended up being terrific vacation knitting! The pattern was mind numbingly easy, and it didn't matter if I got sunscreen or dirt or dog hair all over it because it's a stupid Swiffer cover. And, since I have a daughter who LOVES to Swiffer (sadly, I'm not nearly the example my own mother was) they were put to good use as soon as we got home.

By the way, my mom is fantastic. She worked until my little brother was born, took care of us while earning her bachelors degree, went back to work when I was in junior high, rose through the ranks (all the while keeping dinner on the table), earned her masters degree, and retired to the farm well before retirement age. She truly has had it all and I want to be just like her when I grow up. Except I'd really like to retire to the farm without the job and masters degree if at all possible, and I won't be making the jelly.

Oh. My. Goodness. You have gone off the deep end. Now, having made you aware of that fact, I think the swiffer cover is really cute.

And kudos to your mom. That is impressive!

It's so pretty, it would be a shame to use it on my kitchen floors!

You have gone off the deep end and all for swiffers instead of tortillas. I don't get it.

That pattern is mind numbing easy? Well then make me one. Those swiffer covers are much more prettier than the crocheted ones I have seen. I like the red.
