By the way...
  • JM's upstairs trying out Stephen King's habit of writing to loud rock music. A's still sick; she's on the couch sticking cloves into lemons. 30NOV09
  • We slept in this morning. JM is doing his algebra, but A is sick in bed. 30NOV09
  • Just used the Kitchen-Aid meat grinder attachment The Man gave me for my birthday(!) to grind up some lamb for burgers tonight. Messy. 23NOV09
  • JM is working on his novel; A is practicing piano. School will be finished before lunch today! 23NOV09
  • The Goobs are having a heated discussion about how early humans might have shaved. WTF? 23NOV09
  • Adults who ask children what they will do when they "get out into the real world" should be smacked. Repeatedly. 23NOV09

    More Randomness

    • I don't like blogging on Mondays.  Actually, I don't like doing much of anything on Mondays.  I don't know why; Monday hasn't had any real impact on me for the last ten years or so.  I guess old habits die hard.
    • JellyMan hit a snag in Saxon Algebra 1 (have I written about this here?) about a month ago.  It was serious enough that I thought I had made a mistake by going directly to Algebra 1 after 8/7, so I ran out and bought Algebra 1/2.  It was ridiculously easy, but JellyMan was still taking hours to do his work and missing way too many problems on the daily lessons because of carelessness.  So it turns out it was a character issue, not an algebra issue.  The Man and I applied some discipline and offered some encouragement, and set Algebra 1/2 aside.  JellyMan is now doing a fabulous job in Algebra 1, just like we knew he could.
    • Birdy loves my blog, and she doesn't care who knows it!  Wow - I'm still reeling from Jamie thinking I'm Brillante.

Roberta says I have to list seven random things about myself, and that works out great because I'm just writing a bunch of random stuff today anyway.  Thanks, Birdy!

    • This picture has nothing to do with anything:

    •  JellyMan got braces recently, and his teeth look different already.  They're not straight yet, but they're definitely different.  I didn't expect the changes to be so immediate. He's adapted well to the trauma and now looks just like all the other kids in his drama school.  They ALL have braces, as do most of the girls at Anemone's dance studio.  I'm having trouble adjusting to this.  Once upon a time, kids got teased for wearing braces.  Now they get teased for having crooked teeth.  You know, I've never once been teased about my teeth, and they are messed up.  Parents must have more disposable income these days - either that, or we've all lost our minds.
    • We're decorating early this year.  The Goobs think they ought to have an entire day off school to decorate the tree.  I say forget it; there is no way that decorating our tree will take all day, and we just took four days off for Thanksgiving.  We'll probably reach a compromise - math and Latin, plus whatever reading they do throughout the course of the day.
    • Look into these eyes:

They are the eyes of a cold-blooded killer. That's right. Norman has a long history of killing and maiming. We first noticed his homicidal tendencies when he chewed the arm off one of Anemone's Barbies. We called her Shark Bite Barbie, and Anemone kept her in the bathroom, where she could be repeatedly rescued from a bloody demise by a Navy Seal G.I. Joe doll.

Do you know, around the world, Americans are known for their preternaturally straight teeth?? No lie. We really are. We seem to be the only country in the world obsessed with straight teeth. Watch foreign movies. Three quarters of the stars have teeth to send an orthodontist screaming in terror.
