Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen
Monday, July 13, 2009 at 7:54AM I can't hear that song without thinking of Princess Vespa in Spaceballs. "She's a bass." Hahahahahaha! I must watch that movie to cheer myself up, because I've had a catastrophe. I dropped my external hard drive yesterday, and it's making the dreaded clicking sound. It is dead, and every picture I've taken over the past four years is gone.
Oh, the humanity!
Luckily my very favorites are all online somewhere or on cds, but what about all those not-quite favorites on my hard drive? All those vacation pics I haven't gotten around to editing and resizing for the web? What about all the pre-digital pictures I had scanned???
Not to mention all my homeschooling records for the last seven years.
Like I said, nobody knows but Jesus. (And all the other schmucks who put all their eggs in their external hard drive and then dropped it on the hard tile floor.)

You're getting a BIG HUG right now, whether you like it or not. Maybe I need it too, because, well, just because, I would feel a big loss if I'd lost years of pictures and homeschool stuff.
Oh man:(
Every time our hard drive bit it we took it in and they were at least able to save some stuff. Is yours beyond this? By the time we could afford to do this so many months had passed I did have to redo lesson plans and grades and such. Do you have any of that printed out?
I'm so sorry :( ((hugs))
I agree with Lisa...they should be able to recover some of the stuff, if not all, from the hard drive. Do not despair yet...there is hope. So sorry for your loss.
Oh you poor thing! I'd cry and I'd cry and I'd cry. I hope you can recover some of it.
Have a drink. See if you can get some of it recovered. Have another drink. Then take some pictures of cow butt's. Hopefully you'll feel better. Have another drink.
I'm so sorry!!! I can relate and it is a horrible feeling!!!
Oh no! I am so sorry! How awful.
Thanks, everyone.
Lisa, that's the trouble - being able to afford it! I've had so many things break recently, from a transmission to a laptop screen to Anemone's glasses. Plus it's book ordering time! Urgh. And sadly, no, I didn't have anything printed out other that what is in their portfolios. So I have the best, but not the rest. I guess I can live with that for a while. Luckily we are at the beginning of the school year so it won't be that big a deal to re-do everything for the current year.
I am so sorry, Melanie. You are just having a rough time of it over there. I like Applie's advice. That might help or just quit breaking stuff!
(hugs)
I like Applie's advice too, but my cow butt pictures come out blurry when I've been drinking.
Melanie, check to see if there if a Job Corps near by. I have utilized the one in Palmer many times to fix stuff for me and they have been able to pull out valuable files for me after major crashes and such on my machines. All it cost for me to get this done was the gas to drive there and some cookies (the cookies was my idea because the kids going there are just that kids and all kids will work for good cookies!!).
Maybe the Man can pull the files off the HD for you when he returns - that is coming soon isn't it?
This is one time that your blog and twitter can come in handy for helping you piece together what your plans were. I know that helped me a lot when it happened to me. All my blabbing finally paid off for something:)
